Over The Rainbow Cowl

 

This pattern uses the beautiful, versatile, yet easy and quick crocheted Puff Stitch, suitable for both beginners and experts.  

 

Inspired by my BFF, Deb Chase, the most giving and kind soul I have ever met. Because of her support sponsoring my green card, I was able to immigrate to the U.S. and realize my wildest dreams. You are my rainbow, cuz!

Materials:

2 balls of Bonita Yarns Kaleidoscopic in Over the Rainbow colorway (Fingering weight; 100% Icelandic wool, 195 yards/50 grams per skein).

OR 

1 skein of Bonita Yarns Angora Blends

Approximately 380 yards of fingering weight yarn for this project.

US size G (3.75 mm) hook

Buttons: 3 Size 50 mm/2” toggle buttons

Measurement:

6 ½” X 26 ½”

Gauge:

In puff stitch clusters (see special stitches):

2 sts and 3 rows = 2” (5.0 cm)

CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain gauge.

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch (PS) – Yo, insert hook in st indicated, yo, pull through and bring yarn up to height of rest of stitches (3 loops on hook), Yo, insert hook in same

stitch, yo, pull through and bring yarn up to height of rest of stitches (5 loops on hook), yo, insert hook once again into the same stitch, yo, pull through and bring yarn up to height of rest of stitches (7 loops on hook), yo, insert hook once again into the same stitch, yo, pull through and bring yarn up to the height of rest of stitches (9 loops on hook), yo, pull through all loops on hook.

Directions:

Ch 21.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook (beg ch doesn’t count as st here and throughout), pull up yarn measure 1” (2.5 cm) see step 1, work a PS in same st (see special stitches and step 2 - 4), ch 1, PS in same st, * ch 1, skip next 3 ch, (PS, ch 1, PS) in next st, rep from * across – (12 PS + 11 ch = 23 sts).

Row 2: Ch 1 (beg ch doesn’t count as st), sc in first ch 1 sp between PS, pull up yarn measure 1” (2.5 cm) work a PS in same st (see special stitches and pic 2 and 3), ch 1, PS in same st, * ch 1, skip next ch 1 and PS, (PS, ch 1, PS) in next ch 1 sp between PS, rep from * across – (12 PS + 11 ch = 23).

Row 3 – to Row 34: Rep Rnd 2. Customize length as you wish, repeating row 2. Great beginners project and introduction to a fun stitch.
