Embossed Leaves Scarflette

Posted by Lianka Azulay on

Happy Holidays, lovelies!

It’s time for another fun Embossed Crochet CAL adventure! I had a few goals for this one:

  • It had to be quick, pretty and easy, so you can make it as a gift or for yourself, even if last minute.
  • It had to have some texture and neat stitches, but easy to memorize.
  • It had to be versatile. You can use this scarflette in many different ways, but you can also customize it into a longer scarf or a wrap… oh and It’s also reversible!!!

I would love to see your project pictures on our Bonita Patterns CALs Facebook Group. I “hangout” there for inspiration, support, and the pure fun. We have talented crocheters from all over the globe ready to help whenever a question pops in. You can find us HERE.

This project is also on Ravelry HERE

*** The scarflett CAL pattern will be free with ads on the Bonita Patterns Blog for a limited time (from December 6 through December 31, 2018) or you can purchase an ad-free PDF copy with a 50% off discount HERE.***

Pattern Notes:

  • The beauty of knitted embossed leaves has been “translated” to crochet in this Embossed Leaves Reversible Scarflette. This pattern is rated as intermediate. The skills required to complete this project are: crocheting in the rows, chain (ch), slip stitch (sl st), single crochet (sc), double crochet (dc), V-stitch (in this pattern, the V-st is made of: hdc 1, ch 1, hdc 1), front post double crochet (FPdc) and back post double crochet (BPdc).
  • The scarflette can easily be customized in size to become a long scarf. Instructions will be given for modifying the pattern to your preference.

Finishing Ties: make 2 following same directions

The finishing ties were made by a crochet I-cord, with leaves added at each end, as follows:

Directions for I-Cord:

Ch 3

Row 1: Insert hook in second ch from hook, pull loop through, retaining all loops on hook (insert hook in next st, pull loop through) twice. There will be 3 loops on hook.

Row 2: Drop the last 2 loops from the hook, leaving only the first loop on hook, hold on to the dropped loops with your non-hook hand so they don’t come undone, yo and pull through loop on hook completing a sl st, reinsert the hook into the next dropped loop, yo, draw yarn through the picked up loop only (2 loops on hook), reinsert the hook into the last dropped loop, yo, draw through the picked up loop only (3 loops on hook).

Row 3 – Row 80: Repeat Row 2. – (3 sts)

Row 81: With all 3 loops on hook, yo, pull through all stitches on hook. – (1 st)

Row 1

TIP: When working the I-cord, an important tip to avoid the last or 3rd sl st of the I-cord to unravel, is to hold this 3rd st by pinching it with your left thumb while working the 1st and 2nd sts.

Here you see the first Row 2 (3 sl sts) completed

  • Directions for Leaf Embelishment:

Once you finished Row 81 of I-cord:

Row 1: TURN, so wrong side of I-cord is facing you, Ch 3 (count as dc), 3 dc in same st as beg ch; turn. – (4 dc)

Row 2: Ch 2 (count as hdc here and throughout), 2 FPdc in next 2 sts, hdc in last st; turn. – (4 FPdc + 2  hdc = 6 sts)

Row 3: Ch 2, BPdc in next st, 2 BPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next st, hdc in last st; turn. – (6 BPdc + 2 hdc = 8 sts)

Row 4: Ch 2, FPdc in next 2 sts, 2 FPdc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next 2 sts, hdc in last st; turn. – (8 FPdc + 2 hdc = 10 sts)

Row 5: Ch 2, BPdc in next 3 sts, 2 BPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc in next 3 sts, hdc in last st; turn. – (10 BPdc + 2 hdc = 12 sts)

Row 6: Ch 2, FPdc in next 4 sts, 2 FPdc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next 4 sts, hdc in last st; turn. – (12 FPdc + 2 hdc = 14 sts)

Row 7: Ch 2, BPdc2tog over next 2 sts, BPdc in next 2 sts, (BPdc2tog over next 2 sts) twice, BPdc in next 2 sts, BPdc2tog over next 2 sts, hdc in last st; turn. – (8 BPdc + 2 hdc = 10 sts)

    Row 8: Ch 2, (FPdc2tog over next 2 sts) 4 times, hdc in last st; turn. – (4 FPdc + 2 hdc = 6 sts)

    Row 9: Ch 2, (BPdc2tog over next 2 sts) twice, hdc in last st; turn. – (2 BPdc + 2 hdc = 4 sts)

Row 10: Ch 2, FPdc2tog over next 2 sts, hdc in last st; turn. Fasten off. – (1 FPdc + 2 hdc = 3 sts)

Join yarn in first st of opposite end of I-cord:

Row 1: TURN, so wrong side of I-cord is facing you, Ch 3 (count as dc), 2 dc in next st, dc in last st; turn. – (4 dc)

    Row 2 – Row 10: Rep Row 2 – 10 from previously made leaf.

Fold each I-cord so one of the leaf end is even with the other leaf beginning and sew it with yarn needle to one of the corners of the scarflette. Repeat for the second I-cord, in the opposite corner as shown in picture below.
